Smoke Inhalation

Definition: Smoke inhalation happens when someone breathes in smoke and toxic gases during a fire. It can irritate the lungs, reduce oxygen in the body, and quickly become dangerous.

Parent Tip: Teach kids to get low and go if a smoke alarm sounds, because cleaner air is closer to the floor. If you suspect smoke exposure, seek medical care right away, even if symptoms seem mild.

Why It Matters: Many fire emergencies become life-threatening because of smoke and toxic gases, not just flames. Understanding smoke inhalation helps you move faster and make safer choices.
