LifeVac Travel Kit - Portable Choking Rescue Device
LifeVac Travel Kit — Portable Choking Rescue Device
What it is: The same life-saving LifeVac device in a compact, portable kit designed to go wherever your family goes. It comes in a zippered carrying bag with an adult mask, pediatric mask, and instructions — available in Yellow, Blue, or Pink.
Why a Travel Kit?
If you already have a LifeVac at home, that's a great start. But choking doesn't only happen in your kitchen.
It happens at restaurants. At grandma's house. In the car on a road trip when your toddler is snacking in the backseat. At a picnic, a cookout, a hotel room. If your LifeVac is sitting on a shelf at home and you're 45 minutes away, it can't help you.
The Travel Kit is the same device — same suction, same one-way valve, same masks — just packaged in a compact zippered bag that fits in a diaper bag, backpack, car console, or carry-on.
I carry one in my vehicle. As a paramedic, I've seen how fast a choking emergency can go from "they're coughing" to "they're silent." Having this within arm's reach — not at home — is the difference.
How It Works
Same three steps as the Home Kit.
- Place the mask over the person's nose and mouth to create a complete seal. The seal is critical — if air leaks around the edges, the suction won't be strong enough to dislodge the object. Choose the pediatric mask for children or the adult mask for adults.
- Push the handle down. This compresses air inside the device. The patented one-way valve ensures air exits out the sides — it will never push an object further into the airway.
- Pull the handle up in a quick, firm motion. This is the active step — the suction created by the pull is what dislodges the obstruction.
No batteries. No expiration date on the device (masks should be replaced every 2–3 years). If your mask has become deflated or you've used the device in an emergency, let me know and we can order replacements for you.
Get comfortable with the seal and the push-pull motion. It takes 30 seconds and builds real confidence.

Home Kit vs. Travel Kit — Which Do You Need?
The device inside is identical. The difference is packaging.
The Home Kit is designed to stay in one place — your kitchen, your daycare, your classroom. It comes in a standard box without a carrying case, but does include a practice mask.
The Travel Kit comes in a compact zippered bag built for portability. It's the one you throw in your diaper bag, keep in the car, or take on vacation. No practice mask included.
If you can only get one, the Travel Kit gives you more flexibility since you can keep it at home and grab it when you leave. But ideally, you'd have one that stays home and one that travels with you. That way you're never caught without it.
Important: Always Follow Protocol First
The LifeVac is a second-line rescue tool. That means you use it after standard choking response techniques — 5 back blows and 5 abdominal thrusts (or chest thrusts for infants) — have not cleared the obstruction. Always call 911.
If you haven't learned these techniques, I teach pediatric CPR and First Aid classes in the Pittsburgh area. Knowing what to do in those first seconds is the most important skill a parent can have. Learn more about our training here.
Pair It With Your First Aid Kit
Choking and bleeding are the two most common childhood emergencies. The LifeVac covers choking — make sure you're covered on the other side too:
- Children's First Aid Kit (Medium) — everyday essentials for home, car, and travel
- Family First Aid Kit (Large) — includes hemostatic gauze, tourniquet supplies, and more advanced gear
