Photoelectric Smoke Alarm

Definition: A photoelectric smoke alarm is a type of smoke alarm that’s designed to detect slow, smoldering fires by sensing larger smoke particles.

Parent Tip: Photoelectric alarms are often recommended near bedrooms because many dangerous home fires start slowly and create smoke before flames. They’re also less likely to cause nuisance alarms from cooking.

Why It Matters: Smoldering fires can fill a home with smoke while your family sleeps. A photoelectric alarm can give earlier warning so you have more time to escape.
